More Madrid and We've changed a few things...

After some serious deliberation we decided to change our travel plans a bit....

But first, let me start by describing our day....

Our new Airbnb, isn't it cute?!?
Yesterday we were pretty lazy after our Airbnb move.... we were so excited to have air conditioning and TV that we were little couch potatoes! (We don't actually have a couch but you get the idea). So today we wanted to make sure we got some good Madrid site seeing work done....and we did.... my feet hurt.

Every Sunday Madrid has a very popular open-air flea market called El Rastro that we decided to go to....actually it was one of the reasons we stayed in Madrid longer.

It's never this dead on the streets.... we must have woken up too early.
There's all the people!
The flea market was pretty cool. Very similar to china town or what you would see at festivals. We made a pinky promise deal not to let each other buy ANYTHING..... our bags are overloaded as it is (we actually need to get rid of some things). But it was nice to wander around and check everything out.
Goofing around at El Rastro

After El Rastro we decided to go hit up one of the museums that was suppose to be free all day...
Outside Museo Reina Sofia
Ryan hates when I whip out the selfie stick.... he gets embarrassed and tells me to be quick! HAHA

When we got there we found out that the 'gratis' time was actually after 1:30p, which meant we had some time to kill......so like any local trying to kill time, we went to the park.

El Retiro Park or Buen Retiro Park.....this is actually the park we went to the first day we arrived in Madrid (we were trying to kill time then too). This time I took more pictures....I'm starting to get the tourist thing down. This park is really big and beautiful.... it has a ton a stuff to see.... we took pictures of the lake the first day we were here, but here is one of Ryan sitting next to it.

Ryan and Turtle
Ryan REALLY wanted a picture with this turtle... I obliged him. He said people would like it since someone liked his elevator video (thanks a lot Erica and Hallie! =P )
Another Statue...I stopped reading the plaques.

Weird water fountain building....we don't touch these water spouts anymore

More statues, just lounging around.
We went to this free exhibit... it was some abstract art stuff... we didn't really understand
Inside of the exhibit
Palacio de Cristal
It doesn't even look like I used a selfie stick! =D
Lagoon in front of the crystal palace
Crystal Palace
I guess this was another art exhibit .

Trying to get creative with our shots.
There was a cave outside of the crystal palace that Ryan HAD to go through....
You cant see, but there is a waterfall behind us.

One guess on who made me take this picture....

One for the road.

After the park we decided to get some food.....for some reason we were drawn to McDonald's (don't judge us). We ordered our food on the machine so we didn't look like total fools trying to order, at the end of the ordering process it asked if we wanted a 'towel' for one euro.... we had no idea what that meant.... we think it meant a napkin because we couldn't find one anywhere. I wasn't a fan of the McExtreme sandwich, it had some weird sauce on it and Gouda cheese.... it's like a fancy McDonald's or something. They do serve beer though which is cool.

Madrid McDonald's

After our meal we headed back to the museum and got in gratis..... I really don't think museums are my thing, especially the abstract stuff. It made me rethink throwing away all of my childhood art work....

We weren't allowed to take pictures in the museum, but I managed to get a snap of this statue head.... out of everything in the museum that we saw, this was my favorite. It kind of looks like He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named.
Voldemort Head.

Ryan wanted me to take a video of the elevator at the museum....I refused, so he took one himself. I'm not posting it.....I don't care how much you people like elevators.

Speaking of elevators.... we were on the elevator going down from the top of the museum, when a lady came in and asked in SPANISH if the elevator was going down.... Ryan confidently responds "Si". {my jaw drops}  I was in total shock.... the day before he could barely understand a thing and all of a sudden he is answering questions to strangers in confidence. That wasn't even the first time he surprised me today....so I take back what I said yesterday about Ryan's Spanish, I guess Ryan's comprehension is not at a stalemate.

After the museum we headed home.... but first we hit up the grocery store. We decided our new favorite pass time is to meander around the grocery store trying to figure out what things are and picking up something new.

On to bigger and better things..... our travel plans have changed.

We originally were going to go from Madrid -->  Rome....then -->Switzerland -->Germany. Now we're thinking Madrid -->Rome-->Athens, Greece-->Warsaw, Poland --> Germany? We've booked our Greece tickets already.... 17 euros a person, who could say no?? We really wanted to see Switzerland but we didn't think we would get to enjoy it as much since we are on a budget, so we felt it would be best left as an individual trip for the future. We're excited for Greece because it was originally one of the countries we wanted to visit but we nixed the idea because of it's location being out of the way, but with cheap tickets it made it a possibility. Poland was always on the list but we weren't sure how to fit it in.... it is actually one of the cheaper places to fly from Greece which is why we might do it after, but our plans are very fluid at the moment.

Well that's all for now, adios!

  1. If you have time and haven't left already, spend some time in La Latina and at Mercado San Antón (better than San Miguel in my opinion) <3 (DLC)
